Hi Darshin,

Some say you should take mtx on an empty stomach but it's something I personally will not do. The patient leaflet with my mtx doesn't say either way, just says to take with plenty of water.
Do you take a stomach protector such as omeprazole? Most of us on mtx take these, and you should definitely take a stomach protector if you are taking anti-inflammatories.
Hope this helps.

Hi Darshin,

I take 25mg weekly on an empty stomach, and its working for me. I feel that at the moment I am one of the luckier ones as I've yet to have any serious side effects.

Hi Darshin

I take mine on a Saturday evening after dinner. This means it is taken on a full stomach and then a few hours later I am asleep when it is doing its worst. I then have a nice lazy Sunday to recover. As Doreen says, if you are taking anti-inflammatories as well, make sure you get a stomach protector from your doctor. Whatever tablets I take I always make sure that I have a full glass of water and that I have eaten before or straight after, even if it is a banana or something. It definitely helps me avoid heartburn and stomach problems.

As with everything with RA it is all trial and error.

Take care

Jackie

Thanks everyone for responses. I think will try and take MTX after food from now on and see the difference.

Thus far I've not had any tummy trouble over it so bit of a surprise. I've heard of Omeprazole which I might ask my doc about next time.

Hi Darshin i think i have read somewhere to take it after food. Alot of people on here are on stomach protector tablets to reduce stomach acid production. I always feel really rough the next day ie indigestion, after taking mtx if i don't have much to eat before taking it.
